The Wishing Well
She enters the room
And we eyed each other briefly.
She was wearing a tank top and jeans,
Add it with a simple pair of heels.
She looks at me and sees
Black dress, black shoes
Red nails and red lips
Her eyes must be saying, “This must be no ordinary witch.”
I give her a tour in the bewitched house.
Aurora’s needle, Rapunzel’s hairbrush
The evil queen’s mirror
And fairytale’s antiques.
But beyond the room
is the magic you’ll see
“But for a price,
If you dare to see”
She puts her hand inside of her bag
A waddle of green paper in her hand
I shake my head, “Not, not cash, but something more dear.
But only if you’re willing to give.”
Several people have visited here.
Only to pay the price they fear.
The risk has always remained the same.
“But only if you’re willing to give.”
A man has longed for knowledge unheard
But for a price, cannot utter a word.
A woman has gained beauty surreal
Only for her eyes to lose what she’s seen.
The woman in front then utters her lips in poetry.
The way to greet a modern witch
“One thing I seek, the desire of my heart,
To see my lover, my keeper for life.”
Her eyes shone bright with each word she speaks
As if she anticipates the future ahead
Her heart beats fast, as loud as a drum
Her excitement can be seen in the smile of her lips.
She walks across and goes near
To the wishing well with incredible fear
“Look into the well, and there you shall find
You partner in life, till death do you part.”
A bubbling sound and a clash of waves
Inside the seemingly small mundane well
Out of the crashes comes a face
As fate calls out, “Here is the man you are destined to be with”
“What do you see?”
I ask her in a whisper
A still sound voice responds to me,
“I finally see my partner, my lover for life.”
But in exchange, there is a cost
For the love you seek will be the love you have lost
For when you have asked for your lover’s face
Now your emotion for love will erase
Her eyes once bright, with the hopes of love
Now replaced, with a blank-filled void.
Her heartbeat fast but steadily slows down
In exchange for a lover, she has forgotten love.
