you deserve a love that heals

I can’t promise it won’t hurt anymore, but I can promise to hold your hand when it does.

You deserve a love that heals. You deserve a love that will see your pain as you wince towards the memories you didn’t want to reminisce, who will hear your heart breaking, and still say, “I can’t promise it won’t hurt anymore, but I can promise to hold your hand when it does.”

You deserve a love that won’t try to fix you, because you never needed fixing in the first place. But you deserve a love that stands by you, and if or when the time comes they hope to be better, to get better, or to feel better, you stand alongside them. Because even when you never needed fixing, you can always dream of being full again.

You deserve a love that will see all of your scars, your broken bones and unreached dreams, your what-ifs and could-have-beens, and look you directly in the eye and say, “you are still worth loving.”

You deserve a love that will hear your cries and screams when the nightmares come and haunt you, and wake you up with comforting whispers and say, “you are safe.”

You deserve a love that will make your heart beat again, and you deserve a story that will still give you a happy ending. You deserve a second chance to life, to love, to career, to whatever it is you want, because your past should have no say of what you want your future to hold. You deserve a love that will make you want to live life again, no matter how despairing the fates have been. You deserve a love that makes you want to fight back when the world shoves you down, because you are worth fighting for.

You deserve a love that heals. You deserve a love that refuses to break your heart, and if it does, they’ll pick up the pieces alongside you. They’ll hand you the gloves, and the glue, and whatever else you need to get back up again. You deserve a love that holds your hand when the sun refuses to shine the next day, or even with the uncertainty of tomorrow.

You deserve a love that will make you hum the songs you love in the shower again, and you deserve a love that will make you want to go out and spend a night in the city with your friends. You deserve a love that heals you oh-so-much that for the brief-est of moments, you forgot that you had so much baggage you were carrying.

Because finally, you have someone carrying your baggage along with you.

You don’t need a love that will stand with you against the world. But you do deserve a love that will stand by you in the softest of moments, with the uncertainty of tomorrow, and the vulnerabilities of the past. You deserve a love that loves to learn how to take care of you.

You don’t need a love that will be your knight in shining armor. But you do deserve a love that will hold your hand when the crowd gets too much. You deserve a love that squeezes your hand just for you to squeeze it back. You deserve a love that will whisper assurances to you when the insecurities begin to scream at your ears. You deserve a love that will wake you up when the nightmares keep you locked in your thoughts. You deserve a love that will laugh with you with all your inside jokes, and will cry with you with all your hidden thoughts.

We are all broken, but we do not need to be fixed. We need to be loved, and loved so rightly that we get to heal our broken pieces.

You deserve a love that heals. And in a world where we’ve been scarred enough, I pray we find it.
