You ask why we speak,
When the issue isn’t about us.
I answer while pointing to my lips,

“Has God not created lips,
And a voice for me to express?
To speak up for those whose speech
Is taken and forbidden to open.”

You question why we struggle,
When we’re not even affected.
I respond while pointing to my eyes

“Has God not created eyes,
To see the injustices being committed?
To spot the people betraying this country?
And to wake those who are blind?”

You demand why we help,
When we’re not even involved.
I reply while opening my hands,

“Has God not created hands,
To help those who cannot help themselves,
To protect those who cannot protect themselves,
And to raise our fists against those who betray the rights of our people?”

You wonder why we stand up,
When we’re not even getting hurt.
I retort as I rise from my seat,

“Has God not created feet,
To stand against the abuse of the powerful,
To rise for those who have fallen,
And to trample those who neglect to follow the law?

You challenge me, who am I?
Thinking I can change this country?
I respond as my heart continues to beat,

“Has God not created me?
Has God not given me the heart to love this nation
And the capability to fight for her?
To know what is right and to discern what is wrong?

“Has God not placed me here?
In this land, where I grew to embrace?
Where I swore my patriotic allegiance to defend it,
And condemn those who mistreat her?

Has God not created others,
Who will rise just as I have?
Will He not call up more,
To be the watchmen of the Philippines?”

Ezekiel 3:17 ESV
“Son of man, I have made you a watchman for the house of Israel. Whenever you hear a word from mymouth, you shall give them warning from me.”
